What does your Communication Triangle say?

What on earth is a communication triangle you may be thinking?

Well it’s the area of you that needs to convey the most powerful message.  When talking to others they will be looking at your face (unless you are causing a distraction elsewhere of course!).  Within their peripheral vision they will also take in your hair, head, throat, shoulders and the first 6-8 inches of your body.  This area is called your communication triangle.

According to New York University, Graduate School of Business, people make 11 decisions about us in the first seven seconds of contact. The following are consistently included:

  1. Trustworthiness
  2. Credibility
  3. Believability
  4. Competence
  5. Honesty

It is up to you to make sure that your communication triangle works for you and not against.

It is just as easy to convey the positive attributes above as it is to give people ‘reasonable doubt’.
